What is an HVAC Filters, and How Does It Work?

An HVAC filters  is a device that helps to remove contaminants from the air in your home. It does this by trapping particles of dust, pollen, and other allergens in its fibers. It prevents them from being circulated back into the air by your HVAC system.

MERV ( Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is a scale that indicates how well an air filter can remove particles from the air. The rating  derived from a test method developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)  that is conducted under conditions that simulate everyday residential and commercial activities.

The highest MERV rating is 20, and the lowest is 0. The ratings in between correspond to the filter’s ability to remove different sizes of particles from the air.
