Steps for Dryer Vent Cleaning

If your clothes dryer vent cleaning is not working as usual in the past year or two, it probably needs a good cleaning. A clogged dryer vent not only lengthens the time it takes to dry your clothes, but is also a major fire hazard.

The first step is to unplug your dryer from the electrical socket. Next, disconnect the duct from the dryer. If it’s easier, you can disconnect the dryer from the wall and move it out of the way.

Once the dryer is moved, vacuum out the duct with a brush attachment. Be sure to get the lint trap, too. Next, use a wet/dry vac to suction any remaining lint from the duct.

Now it’s time to clean the outside vent. Remove the cover and use a brush attachment on your vacuum to clean the inside of the vent. Be sure to reach as far up as you can.

Once you’ve vacuumed out the vent, reattach the cover. Now plug in your dryer and run it on the air fluff setting for about 20 minutes. This will help to dry out the inside of the duct and remove any lingering moisture.
